The San Leandro Art Association is happy to participate in the good works of other groups within our community and is hosting a craft table at the Chetland Road 7th annual Chili Cook-off. The Chetland Road group hosts this annual event and the proceeds go to different local charities each year. This year's recipients are, April Showers, a local non-profit that provides showers, food, haircuts and other basic services to the homeless in San Leandro and The San Leandro Adult School Family Literacy Preschool which provides preschool for the children of adults who are earning their high school diplomas. All three blocks of Chetland Road, off Dutton, will be blocked off for the Chili Cook-off events, which include children's activities and beer from local breweries such as Drake's and 21st Amendment. The entrance fee is $20 per person and is family friendly. The public is welcome.
The San Leandro Art Association is proud to be currently displaying the works of 24 members at The Cooler, a beer tavern, located at 1517 E. 14th Street in downtown San Leandro. We will be hosting a reception on August 24, 4:00 - 7:00 p.m., and will be serving beverages and an array of snacks from local establishments. The public is invited to come and check out the art on display and for sale. We will also be selling our newly-created fundraising greeting cards featuring artwork by local school children. All sales of the cards go to our Dorothy Cunningham Art Grant which awards art teachers in the San Leandro Unified School District money towards the purchase of art supplies and equipment.
The Art Association will be participating in the July 25, 2019, Truth Thursday food truck and music event, 5:00-8:30 p.m. The theme of July's event is Art and Culture. SLAA will be hosting a craft activity table and putting on a small art show with art for sale. We will also be selling matted art and greeting cards. We will also be selling our first series of fundraising greeting cards for the Dorothy Cunningham Art Grant which gives money to art teachers in the SLUSD to help them buy art supplies. All proceeds from the cards goes into the fund for the grant.
